Anderson for Elliott: Avalanche, Senators Swap Struggling Goaltenders

The Ottawa Senators are going all out in their quest to tear their team to the ground before the trade deadline.

Already the busiest club in the NHL over the past two weeks, the Senators sent struggling goaltender Brian Elliott to the Colorado Avlanche on Friday in exchange for their struggling goaltender, Craig Anderson. It seems like quite the lateral move for both teams seeing as how both players have been mired in season-long slumps, and both are eligible to become free agents on July 1 (Elliot will be restricted, while Anderson is unrestricted).

After spending the first six years of his career as a backup in Chicago and Florida, Anderson inked a two-year contract with Colorado last year and took advantage of his first chance to be a starter, posting a .917 save percentage in 71 games for the Avalanche. He also played extremely well in the playoffs, recording a .933 save percentage in Colorado's opening round loss to San Jose, including a 51-save performance in Game 3.

In 33 games this season, however, his numbers have plummeted while he's split playing time with Peter Budaj.
