There are few words to describe the chaos that unfolded during the second period of Boston's 8-6 win against Montreal on Wednesday night. The two Original Six rivals had a six-minute stretch that included seven goals and a line brawl that was capped off with the NHL's second goalie fight in the past week. According to the Versus intermission report, there was one goalie fight in the previous seven years.
It all started when Montreal's James Wisniewski went back for a touch-up on an icing call when he was drilled into the glass on a late hit by Boston's Brad Marchand. That hit sparked a massive brawl that ultimately filled both penalty boxes, while the two starting goaltenders, Boston's Tim Thomas and Montreal's Carey Price, decided to join the fun. (It's not like they were stopping any pucks during the period, so why not get into the action?)
Both players received fighting majors, but there really weren't any punches thrown or landed, so Pittsburgh's Brent Johnson still owns the NHL's goalie fighting crown after his one-punch knockdown of Rick DiPietro last week.
Here's a look at the Thomas vs. Price bout, if you really want to call it that...
