Phillies fans might be able to pick out individual pores on the faces of Ryan Howard and Chase Utley from even the farthest reaches of the upper deck in right field thanks to the new $10 million scoreboard being installed at Citizens Bank Park.Construction is under way at the ballpark, with the stadium's original left field video board -- all of seven seasons old -- already relocated to the Phillies' spring training facility in Clearwater, Fla. The new HD board will be nearly triple the size of the old one, with a display measuring 76 feet by 97 feet that will make it the largest in the National League.
That size is equivalent to about 1,380 42-inch flat screens, and the new board will weigh in at 84,420 pounds, according to the team.
"We're truly excited to bring the HD experience to our fans," Mark DiNardo, the Phillies' director of broadcasting and video services, said in a statement. "The new technology and dramatically larger image will bring our fans closer to the action than ever. Our unique partnership with Sony and Daktronics gives us the opportunity to transition the in-house broadcast, production and entertainment systems to high-definition in one step."
In addition to the new board, all 800 televisions throughout the stadium will be upgraded to HD.
