Breaking down the Oregon Ducks before the BCS National Championship Game against Auburn:
WHAT WE FIGURED THIS TEAM FOR IN PRESEASON
With USC wounded and in NCAA purgatory, the Ducks were pegged as the heirs to the throne. They would be the team that would win the Pac-10 and probably end up in the Rose Bowl for the second straight season. Turns out the Rose Bowl was small potatoes, a low-ball offer.
SO HOW DID 12-0 HAPPEN?
An offense like no other, the most explosive tailback in the land and a young quarterback in sophomore Darron Thomas who grew into the role quickly. Oregon led the nation in scoring offense, total offense, scored 40 points in 10 games, more than 50 points in six games. The Ducks threw down the gauntlet every week and said, "Keep up with that." Nobody could.
