Falcons Making Sure They Fully Grasp New Playoff OT Scenarios

Here is the scenario in overtime this Saturday when the Packers play the Falcons in the Georgia Dome.

Green Bay wins the toss to begin the OT and receives the kick and starts to move down the field. Brent Grimes, the Falcons' cornerback, swipes an Aaron Rodgers pass.

Grimes does not have an open field in front of him as he starts his return. The Packers start to swarm him and tug at the ball. Immediately, Grimes hits the ground and secures the ball.

It is part of the Falcons' strategy with the new rules in overtime, which make it more likely each team will get a chance with the ball. Once Grimes has the ball, that is considered the Falcons' possession, even if it wrestled loose. If the Packers recover the fumble they can kick a field goal and win the game.

"If I intercept the ball, there is no pitching the ball, reversing field, none of that stuff," Grimes said. "If it is in the flat area, sure, of course try and score. But if there are bunch of people around, go down. We've talked about it.

"We're prepared for these situations. Secure the ball."
