Colts Plan to Make Peyton Manning NFL's Highest-Paid Player Again

Peyton ManningINDIANAPOLIS -- Peyton Manning almost certainly will have a long-term contract extension in place by next season.

Just how soon that happens is a bigger question.

Manning, the Indianapolis Colts' 11-time Pro Bowl quarterback, played the final year of his contract this past season, but Colts owner Jim Irsay and Manning's agent, Tom Condon, each spoke optimistically of a deal getting done relatively soon to The Associated Press this week.

"Yeah, I think something will get done, but it's hard to predict when," Condon told the AP on Tuesday.

Manning, the AP's NFL Most Valuable Player in 2003-2004 and 2008-2009, has played the last seven seasons on a $98-million deal signed in 2004. At the time, that made him the highest-paid player in the NFL.
