Kevin Bieksa Shows His Value to Canucks Amid Trade Rumors

Hold those Kevin Bieksa trade rumors -- at least for now.

The Vancouver Canucks defenseman has been the subject of considerable trade speculation the past two seasons while he struggled due to injuries and inconsistent play. But he's proving to be invaluable as the Canucks stay at the top of the NHL standings.

Heading into Friday's clash with the Edmonton Oilers, Bieksa has seven points in his past six games. He produced a goal and an assist in a 3-1 victory Wednesday over the Calgary Flames.

"It just seems like it was just a matter of time," says Bieksa of his offensive prowess. "I don't think I'm getting any more chances than I did before. Just, they're going in now or guys are capitalizing. It's kind of what I was saying all along. People were telling me: Just stay patient. It'll come as long as you get the chances. It's working out now."
