College Hockey Weekly: Dean Blais Building Contender in Omaha

Filed under:

Every week, FanHouse takes a look at what's going on in college hockey.

Dean Blais has proven himself as a hockey coach. He won two NCAA championships at North Dakota, was a winner as a coach in junior hockey, and led Team USA to a gold medal in the 2010 World Junior Championships in Canada last winter.

In his second stint as a college head coach, Blais has almost instantly turned Nebraska-Omaha into a serious player on the national scene. The Mavericks are in their first year of membership in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, and so far they've done nothing to make people think they're simply happy to be there.

UNO heads into a huge home series against Blais' former team, North Dakota, with one of the best records in the country, and they're knocking on the door for the league lead.
