Major League Notebook: November 3

Here's what is happening around baseball on Wednesday November 3, 2010:

o. Despite some speculation to the contrary after he lost out to Mike Quade for the Cubs' managing job, Ryne Sandberg will in fact be leaving the organization, general manager Jim Hendry said Wednesday. There had been some talk Sandberg might join Quade's staff or return as manager at Triple-A Iowa.

"I don't think that was ever in his plans," Hendry said. "He'll always be a beloved Cub. And hopefully we'll hook up in the path that he feels appropriate in the near future."

The Cubs on Wednesday named former Nationals third base coach Pat Listach as manager Quade's new bench coach.

o. Reds general manager Walt Jocketty was named the Sporting News Executive of the Year for 2010 based on the votes of his peers. Jocketty was credited for making the moves that led to the Reds' unexpected NL Central title, including the acquisition of Aroldis Chapman.

o. Cubs prospect Brett Jackson was hospitalized with a bacterial infection in his shin and his Arizona Fall League campaign is finished. Chicago's top draft pick last year, Jackson played in only four games for the Mesa Solar Sox before the problem -- described as similar to a staph infection -- developed.

o. The Mets announced a new ticket pricing structure for 2011 that the team says will reduce the average ticket price at Citi Field by 14 percent from 2010. They also will offer an additional 10 percent discount to those buying season tickets, season ticket plans or group tickets.
