Here's something you won't hear echoing out of the NHL's offices.
Instead of reformatting the annual All-Star game in an effort to give the often non-competitive game a little more intensity, why not throw it in the ol' hockey scrap heap, along with the ultra-wide goalie pads and the banana-style curved stick?
Why not use the time for the better good, give everyone a pause to recharge before the push for the playoffs?
The All-Star game, for better or worse, is basically a well-heeled schmooze-fest. It's a chance for the NHL and its clubs to wine and dine its corporate sponsors and corporate partners.
The players are props for those who dole out the big bucks.
It's basically a meet and greet photo opportunity for the corporate elite with the likes of stars like Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals and Steve Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
