The Albert Haynesworth saga just won't die. After playing in each of Washington's past five games, the $100 million defensive tackle is inactive for Sunday's game at the New York Giants. The unofficial explanation from the Redskins is that Haynesworth, who has been a backup this season in Washington's base 3-4 defense, is ill.
The tension between Haynesworth and Washington's new coaching staff began on the start of the offseason conditioning program. Informed of the switch from the 4-3 scheme in which he had won All-Pro honors for the Tennessee Titans in 2007 and 2008 before signing his record, seven-year deal with the Redskins the following February, Haynesworth told coach Mike Shanahan that he was heading home and wouldn't be back if he was made to play nose tackle.
After accepting a $20 million bonus payment in April, Haynesworth further infuriated Shanahan by skipping the mandatory minicamp in June. However, he showed up on time for the start of training camp in late July.
