Could Alex Smith Return to the Starting Lineup for San Francisco?

The 49ers' quarterback picture, which seemed to be settled when Troy Smith took over for the injured Alex Smith and got San Francisco within one game of the NFC West lead, is unsettled once again.

It seems there is a chance that Alex Smith, with his left (non-throwing) shoulder separation healed, could be back in the starting lineup Sunday against NFC West co-leader Seattle. San Francisco (4-8) must beat the 6-6 Seahawks in order to keep its faint post-season hopes alive.

Head Coach Mike Singletary said Monday that no decision has been made on who would quarterback against Seattle. The 49ers were 1-6 with Alex Smith doing the starting, then 3-2 with Troy Smith getting the call.
