George Sherrill, Braves Agree to Deal

George SherrillLeft-handed reliever George Sherrill and the Braves agreed to a one-year contract, the team announced Friday. The deal reportedly includes a base salary of $1.2 million and could grow to $1.4 million if certain incentives are hit.

Sherrill, 33, struggled badly with the Dodgers in 2010, going 2-2 with a 6.69 ERA in 65 appearances -- no small sample size issues there -- but he is just two seasons removed from being named to the American League All-Star team as the closer of the Orioles.

"George gives us a left-handed reliever that has experience closing and his 51 saves in the American League East in 2008 and 2009 have demonstrated his effectiveness," Braves GM Frank Wren said in a statement. "He and Scott Linebrink (who was acquired earlier this winter) add the veteran leadership we were looking for."
