Carmelo Anthony Denies Saying He'd Sign Extension With Nets

Carmelo AnthonyDENVER -- Carmelo Anthony said nobody ever approached him about whether he might want to sign an extension if he were to be traded to New Jersey.

"Not at all,'' the Denver star said after Wednesday's second day of training camp, contrary to some reports that he had agreed to sign a contract extension with the Nets if he were to be traded to the team.

There were reports of a a possible four-team deal, also involving Utah and Charlotte, in which the Nuggets would have received New Jersey forward Derrick Favors, Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko and a first-round draft pick. Sources said Tuesday that deal is dead.

Asked if he would have any interest in going to New Jersey, Anthony said, "I'm here. This ain't the offseason. The season has started. I'm not a free agent yet.''

Anthony can opt out of his contract next summer and become a free agent. He has yet to sign a three-year, $64.47 million extension offer that is on the table. Because of the risk of losing him for nothing, the Nuggets could deal Anthony by the February trade deadline.
