Filed under: Bobcats, NBA InjuriesCharlotte Bobcats center Kwame Brown injured his ankle in a pickup game and is expected to miss four to six weeks.
The Bobcats are calling the injury "a third-degree sprain," and Brown is wearing a protective boot on the foot. He severely sprained his ankle Thursday before the start of training camp.
Charlotte signed the 28-year-old center to a one-year, $1.3 million deal last month that reunited him with owner Michael Jordan. Jordan was heavily criticized for selecting the underachieving Brown with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2001 draft while with the Wizards. When Jordan selected the 6-foot-11 center in 2001, Brown made history as he was the first NBA player to be selected No. 1 overall in the draft straight out of high school.
With the departure of Tyson Chandler, Brown is expected to see considerable time at center alongside Nazr Mohammed in Charlotte. However, it is now possible he will miss the start of the regular season. Brown averaged 3.3 points per game and 3.7 rebounds per game in 48 games last season with the Detroit Pistons.
