Cubs Players Endorse Mike Quade

Filed under:

Chicago Cubs general manager Jim Hendry is still going over candidates to replace Lou Piniella as the team's manager in 2011, interviewing Eric Wedge, getting ready to interview Bob Melvin, and of course, the in-house candidate Ryne Sandberg. Bob Brenly was also in consideration to move from the Cubs broadcast booth to the dugout, but pulled himself from contention earlier this week.

If Hendry were to ask his players what they think he should do, though, he could call off the search. Many of the players seem to like the guy they have running the team right now, Mike Quade.

"He's done a great job, and I hope he's here longer than just this year and managing for us next year,'' Ryan Dempster told the Chicago Sun-Times. "Because he deserves it.''

Dempster isn't alone, as Marlon Byrd feels much the same way.
