Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez told ESPN heading into the locker room that his superstar quarterback twisted his left knee. He was replaced by freshman Devin Gardner who completed 7 of 10 passes for 83 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown to Jeremy Gallon, giving the Wolverines a 21-0 lead.
Bowling Green quickly came back, however, scoring a pair of touchdowns to cut the deficit to just seven points. At that point, Rodriguez turned to his third quarterback of the half when he sent in Tate Forcier, who proceeded to orchestrate a 10-play, 69-yard drive that was capped off by a two-yard touchdown run by Michael Shaw to increase the Michigan advantage to 28-14.
Forcier completed all six passes on the drive for 45 yards. When asked why he switched quarterbacks again, Rodriguez said he simply wanted to see what both guys could do.
