Carl Crawford Does Not Regret Tagging Up on Final Out of Rays Loss

Filed under: RaysIt's one of the unwritten rules of baseball you hear about so often. It's preached to players as early as Little League, through the minors and on into the major leagues.

Never make the final out of an inning at third base.

That's exactly what Carl Crawford did on Tuesday night, though, in the bottom of the 10th inning with the Rays trailing the Yankees 8-7 and first place in the AL East on the line.

As you'd expect, Crawford took a lot of heat for his decision. That doesn't mean he regrets going for third. In fact, if he's in the same situation on Wednesday night, he plans on doing it again.

"People can say it was a dumb play all they want, but that's the way we play, and I'm sticking to that,'' Crawford told the St. Petersburg Times. "And if that situation comes up again tonight, I'm going to do it again. They can say it's stupid all they want, I don't care.'' Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
