Dream Win Over Virginia Tech Biggest in James Madison History

Filed under: Virginia Tech, FCSBLACKSBURG, VA. -- Virginia Tech paid James Madison's football team $425,000 to play a game at Lane Stadium on Saturday. But the Dukes left town with much more than cash.

JMU -- after hanging around in the first half -- turned in a dominant effort after the break, stunning the Hokies 21-16 to notch the huge upset.

"This is the biggest win in school history," JMU senior quarterback Drew Dudzik said. "I'm just happy to be a part of it. Our team, we believed we could win all week. For me, it was obviously the biggest win of my life."

In its last two trips to Blacksburg, James Madison had been outscored by Virginia Tech by a combined 90-0. But Saturday, the Dukes' staunch defense gang-tackled Tech's tailbacks -- Ryan Williams and Darren Evans -- and frustrated the already-angry Hokies, who were beaten by Boise State 33-30 on Monday night.

"We knew that we were the underdog, rightfully so," JMU junior safety Vidal Nelson said. "We knew we were facing a great team. We knew they took a tough loss Monday. We knew they'd come out firing."
