Why Rookie of the Year Voting Is Getting More Difficult

Filed under: MLB AwardsRemember when the hardest part of picking the Rookie of the Year was finding one good one? You may have blanked it from your memory, but it wasn't long ago that we had guys like Angel Berroa (2003, .789 OPS), Bobby Crosby (2004, .744) and Jason Jennings (2002, 4.52 ERA, albeit in Colorado) winning the Rookie of the Year.

If you really want to shake your head, consider some of the guys who came in second in the past decade: Shingo Takatsu, Willy Taveras, Khalil Greene and Rodrigo Lopez, to name a few.

Over the past few years, though, we've seen a renaissance of talented rookies. The wild race for this year's NL Rookie of the Year was laid out nicely by FanHouse's Ed Price. Some of these guys will get some MVP votes, and some look like stars for years to come. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
