Broncos vs. Seahawks: Quick Hits

Filed under: Broncos, Seahawks, AFC West, NFC WestKyle Orton said earlier this week that he wanted to establish a high level of play in the Broncos' home opener on Sunday against Seattle. He wanted to build momentum for the season and get the word out to the rest of the league that any team coming to Denver can expect a rough go.

Well, the tone has been set. The Broncos forced four Seattle turnovers leading to 10 of their points, and receiver Demaryius Thomas, Denver's top draft pick, made a splash in his career debut with eight catches for 97 yards and a TD in a 31-14 victory. The Broncos (1-1) bounced back from a season opening loss with their 11th consecutive win in a home opener. Seattle (1-1) dropped its first road test under first-year head coach Pete Carroll.

More: Box Score | Recap

o. Seattle's last turnover came on Matt Hasselbeck's third interception in the late going by Denver rookie Perrish Cox. Even so, Cox figures to get a talking to from his coaches. He was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct after the officials said he made a throat slash gesture at the end of the play.

o. The Broncos have a big lead and the fourth quarter is winding down. But Matt Hasselbeck isn't giving up. He just broke loose on a 20-yard scramble for a touchdown. The only consolation for the Seahawks, though, is that it's going to make the score somewhat more respectable. It's tough to overcome three turnovers (two interceptions and a muffed punt) and coming away with no points when they had a first and goal at the 1 in their opening possession.

o. It was quite a career debut for Demaryius Thomas, the Broncos' top draft pick who missed the entire preseason and last week's regular season opener with soreness in a surgically repaired foot that he broke in a pre-draft workout. Thomas caught Kyle Orton's second touchdown pass of the game, a 21-yarder that came with 9:11 remaining. That reception gave Thomas eight on the day for 97 yards, one shy of Eddie Royal's team record for most catches in a rookie's first game, set in 2008 against Oakland. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
