Don Fehr Moves Closer to Taking Reins at NHLPA

Filed under: NHL EconomicsFormer baseball union boss Don Fehr moved a step away from assuming the same leadership position at the National Hockey League Players Association after its executive board voted to approve his hiring, the NHLPA announced on Saturday.

Fehr, who has served as a consultant for the NHLPA in recent months, still has to be approved by the full membership, which should come by month's end. Fehr would become the first permanent head of the union since Paul Kelly was removed as executive director in August 2009

"The search committee is pleased that the executive board has endorsed our recommendation to select Don Fehr as our new Executive Director and we look forward to our fellow members voting on this important matter," said Mathieu Schneider, a free agent defenseman who was part of the five-member search committee that recommended Fehr's hire. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
