Michael Turner Could Have Returned After Injuring Groin

Filed under: Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, NFL Injuries

ATLANTA -- Tailback Michael Turner popped a 17-yard run for the host Atlanta Falcons in the second quarter Sunday, but during the play felt a pop in his groin and headed for the sidelines.

He had company there, as reserve running back Jerious Norwood was already out of the game against the Arizona Cardinals after injuring his knee on the opening kickoff.

"We were down to two healthy running backs -- and one of them was a fullback," Falcons coach Mike Smith said.

Yeah, but the other was Jason Snelling, who racked up 186 yards of total offense and three touchdowns as the Falcons pounded the Cardinals in a 41-7 romp at the Georgia Dome.

The game had a feel of a blowout early, as the home team marched to three first-half touchdown drives of at least eight plays and led 24-7 at the break. Smith felt good enough about the way things were going to keep Turner, his former Pro Bowler and 1,600-yard rusher, on the bench. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
