Brian Sabean spent the past few years carefully combing through the baseball marketplace, consulting with his cadre of advisors to pick just the right players to complement the Giants' outstanding pitching staff.
And when that didn't work, he went to a yard sale.
The Giants are preparing for their first postseason appearance since 2003, when, truth be told, they were a club carried by Barry Bonds. The right mix of players in the post-Bonds era had eluded them, until now. Ironically, some of the players who have made the biggest impact are those who were, harsh as it may sound, unwanted by anyone else.
You know what they say: one man's trash ...
"Sabes did a great job of cherry-picking guys that other people gave up on," said new Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers.
