COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Dustin Moyer saw it coming. The Missouri campus cop asked Mizzou coach Gary Pinkel a couple weeks ago how he would like to be escorted from the field safely after the Tigers beat Oklahoma, and fans went nuts.
Pinkel smiled. Missouri doesn't beat Oklahoma. Missouri doesn't win big games. But the Tigers, ranked No. 11 in the initial BCS standings for the season, did go on to beat No. 1 Oklahoma Saturday 36-27, and when it was over the crowd did rush the field in a frenzy it isn't used to.
And there was Moyer standing next to Pinkel.
How did you get him off safely?
"You know what a fullback does?'' Moyer said, letting a little grin slip through a serious look. "Let's just say I'm glad I've been working out the past couple years.''
Big showoff. Moyer was named People Magazine's Sexiest Dad Alive in 2009.
Anyway, what a moment Saturday was for Missouri. Actually, I saw the same moment last week at Wisconsin, when the Badgers beat then-No. 1 Ohio State, and the P.A. announcer begged fans to go back into the stands. A week earlier, South Carolina had the moment, beating No. 1 Alabama.
