Major League Soccer's regular season has concluded and the sprint to Toronto and the15th MLS Cup Final is set to begin on Thursday. Each team played 30 games to qualify, but only four more are required to win it all.The quarterfinals will be played as a home-and-home, two-game series decided by the total number of goals scored. The higher seed starts on the road. If the clubs are tied after 180 minutes, a 30-minute overtime period will be played, followed by penalty kicks if necessary. Road goals are not used as a tiebreaker.
The conference finals and MLS Cup Final will be single games, with OT and PKs used if needed. The higher remaining seed in each conference will host the conference final. The Colorado Rapids and San Jose Earthquakes, who qualified for the playoffs as wild cards from the West, were shifted to the East and could become Eastern champions.
The MLS Cup Final is Nov. 21 at Toronto FC's BMO Field.
