Vince Young's Starting Status vs. San Diego Could Depend on Coming Bye

The Tennessee Titans' quarterback situation Sunday could come down to scheduling.

Vince Young's status for Sunday's game against San Diego likely won't be known until later in the week, but John Glennon of The Tennessean reported Monday that Titans Coach Jeff Fisher said the Titans' bye week next week could influence the decision.

"That's certainly part of the consideration," Fisher said. "There are a lot of factors you have to consider. But certainly it is. Vince is most effective when he has his legs underneath him, not just as a runner, but also as a passer. To be able to throw with accuracy, it's all about your feet. That was a concern of ours going into the ballgame and it will be a concern on a daily basis."

Young, who sustained an ankle and knee sprain against Jacksonville last week, was the backup quarterback Sunday, with rookie Rusty Smith filling the No. 3 role.

"Vince could have played, but would not have played to 100 percent," Fisher said. "He did not have the mobility that we would have liked to start. At this point, it made more sense to go with Vince as a 2 rather than Rusty as a 2 because of Vince understanding what we're doing.

"I felt like Vince could not only play in shotgun, but also drop (back). He took drops in the warm-ups, but had limited mobility. He wouldn't have been able to run around, those kinds of things."

Glennon also reported that Fisher is optimistic about Young's chances, but that the fifth-year veteran quarterback will be "day to day."
