Heat Will Stick It to Foes, Haters

Filed under:

LeBron JamesIn a recent poll of 302 million Americans, the Miami Heat were rated as less popular than bed bugs dressed as Nancy Pelosi. So if likability mattered, Miami would go winless this season.

Sadly for Heat haters, your desire to see an alligator eat LeBron James is largely pointless. Oh, it may give you fleeting moments of joy as Miami loses two or three games between now and Memorial Day. But when this season ends, coach Dick Cheney's team will rule the NBA.

What's that, Erik Spoelstra is Miami's coach? Sorry, but it's just hard to keep up with all the bile Miami has released. According to USA Today, they rank among the 1.5 percent of most arrogant brands in the world.

That's not just sports teams. That's everything from athletes to companies to South American dictators.

The Other Side

LeBron moved to lessen the weight of the basketball world on his shoulders, but, like Atlas, he may find out that shifting the position of the globe doesn't much alter the weight that he must bear..

The only sports brands viewed as more arrogant are the Yankees and Tiger Woods, according to a survey of 16,000 consumers by BrandAsset Consulting. Heat fans can take comfort in knowing their team still rates ahead of Halliburton, Harvard and France.

France?

"People are afraid of them and don't think of them as a friendly team," said Anne Rivers, senior vice president at BrandAsset.

Friendly team? When was the last one of those to win a title?

Miami's not out to make friends. If anything, the bashing is just going to fuel its little crusade to conquer the world.
