Evan Royster became Penn State's all-time leading rusher and backup quarterback Matt McGloin played a nearly flawless game as Penn State defeated Michigan 41-31 in front of a "whiteout" crowd in Happy Valley. The victory put Penn State coach Joe Paterno one victory short of 400 for his career
Royster was brilliant, carrying the ball 29 times for 150 yards and two touchdowns while running by Michigan's defense like it wasn't even there. It was the performance Penn State fans had been waiting all season to see from the senior running back, who had struggled in several games this season.
McGloin, a former walk-on who started in place of the injured Rob Bolden, spread the ball around enough to flummox the Michigan secondary. After establishing a pattern of throwing a quick out to slot receiver Graham Zug, McGloin started passing to Derek Moye and Devon Smith, left open by Wolverines defensive backs.
