LeBron Double-Dribbling When It Comes to Racism

LeBron JamesTo be fair, LeBron James didn't say anything the other day about the "R" word during his CNN interview that wasn't true. When asked by Soledad O'Brien if race is a factor in the overwhelming bashing of his choice to trigger the formation of the Miami Heat's Big Three, he said, "I think so, at times. There's always a race factor."

Yes, there always is, but not here. Not regarding LeBron overall, and it's not even a buzzer-shot call. Which says a lot, because race manifests itself in various forms throughout society.

We needn't go further than the White House. Barack Obama gets ripped by his detractors for everything from not having a birth certificate to their liking -- as in he could be an alien, not from Mexico, but from Mars -- to their suggesting that he is the first Muslim ever to masquerade as a Christian for reasons unknown.

Obama is black, by the way. So is James. As is the case for all African-Americans of fame or otherwise, race is its own little Muzak constantly playing in the background.

The point is, since there are a slew of legitimate racial issues everywhere that need to be addressed, it hurts the cause of the righteous to have something like this from LeBron: selfishness.

That and ignorance.
