Migraines Under Control, Rams' Clifton Ryan Hopes to Play Sunday

What does it mean that Clifton Ryan watched the St. Louis Rams practice Thursday, then joined the team in the practice Friday?

It could mean that the defensive tackle, out for three games because of an ongoing battle with migraine headaches, could be ready to contribute again.

It's no sure thing, but even the possibility of getting Ryan back is bringing a smile to the face of coach Steve Spagnuolo.

"(Having) Cliff Ryan back out there ... was great to see,'' Spagnuolo said after Friday's workout. 'He feels pretty good and he's happy as heck and I am too. We'll move forward.''

That doesn't mean Ryan will play against the Detroit Lions.

It will be a game-day decision, but seems to be a 50-50 chance. The 26-year-old has had migraine issues since he was 18, but he said nothing like this "in about eight years.''

He's been meeting with specialists in the treatment of migraines, and he said he's hopeful that the headaches are more manageable. He hasn't played since the Sept.12 opener and hadn't practiced since Sept. 15 before getting back on the field.

"It's probably going to be an ongoing thing,'' Ryan said. "I don't think I'll miss any more time due to the situation. I think we've got it manageable. Very manageable. I've seen a lot of doctors. So I'll be all right. I'm a tough guy. I think I can tough it out.''
