Placido Polanco Out of Phillies Lineup; Jimmy Rollins Leading Off

The Phillies held regular third baseman Placido Polanco out of their lineup for Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Reds because of back stiffness.

Infielder Wilson Valdez gets the start in his place. Valdez played 111 games this year, but only seven at the hot corner, getting the bulk of his time filling in for shortstop Jimmy Rollins and second baseman Chase Utley as they dealt with injuries.
