With 'The Streak' On the Line, Chargers Turn Sights Toward Raiders

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Sunday in Oakland, Southern California's only NFL team will try to preserve The Streak.

A victory over the Raiders would be the San Diego Chargers' 14th in a row against their foremost rival.

In San Diego, where the Raiders are widely viewed with disdain, The Streak is nearly as popular as surfing and sunshine.

"Certainly it's been quite a run," said Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers on Monday, "but this game stands alone as a new challenge and we need to play well to go win."

Expect coach Norv Turner to remind his players that they were fortunate to escape from Oakland with victories in 2008 and 2009.

"We've barely gotten out of there alive," Turner said on Monday, "and I know our guys know what kind of game it will be."

The Chargers (2-2) lead the NFL in total offense and total defense.
