Magic Don't Lose The Games That Don't Count

ORLANDO -- Once the season starts, no one will remember -- or care -- what they did during the exhibition schedule.

This still is hard to ignore.

The Orlando Magic won their 19th consecutive exhibition game Saturday night, which could be the most meaningless statistic in the NBA -- unless it leads to a surprisingly strong run to the NBA Finals in June.

"The preseason is important to us. We approach it like the regular season. That way, we're not shifting gears when the games count,'' said veteran Vince Carter. "We're trying to establish good habits. Every team, every coach does things a little differently.''

The Magic were 8-0 last October. They are 5-0 now. They haven't lost an exhibition game since Oct. 6, 2008, and they obviously put more emphasis on the games than many other teams do.
