Past Becomes Present as Rangers Melt Down in Game 1 Loss

Matt Treanor, C.J. Wilson, Ron Washington and Jorge CantuARLINGTON, Texas -- There isn't enough open grazing land in the entire Lone Star State to accommodate all the goats associated with the Texas Rangers' 6-5 loss to New York in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series Friday night.

The Rangers, who had never won a game at home in the postseason -- ever -- seemed to have this one in the bag with C.J. Wilson pitching well and big hits from Josh Hamilton and Michael Young leading to a 5-0 lead after six innings.

The Yankees had seen their ace, CC Sabathia hit all over the lot, but they didn't lose their focus, much less the game. The Rangers seemed to lose the first, and they absolutely lost the latter.

It was a replica in spirit, if not in structure, of past Yankees-Ranger postseason matchups. The Yankees know how to win. The Rangers have yet to learn.
