Tony Romo's Interception Total Creeping Back to Old Ways, On Paper at Least

One would never know it from all the fuss over the Cowboys' 1-4 start and his seven interceptions, but Tony Romo is having a pretty good season, at least statistically.

A Pro Bowl quarterback in all three of his seasons as Dallas' full-time starter, Romo is fourth in the NFC passer ratings ahead of the heralded Aaron Rodgers of Green Bay and Matt Ryan of Atlanta as well as Washington's Donovan McNabb, Chicago's Jay Cutler and Minnesota's Brett Favre, to whom he has already lost, and the New York Giants' Eli Manning, whom he faces on Monday.

Romo is second in the NFL in completion percentage (69.2) and touchdowns per game (2.0) and fourth in yards per game (313.2). But only San Francisco's Alex Smith is being picked off more often.

"You're always unhappy any time the ball gets intercepted," Romo said. "Sometimes you're happy with the decision and the outcome didn't turn out right. Then there's going to be ones that you want back because you didn't put it in the right spot or you made a wrong read. Interceptions are always like that."

However, Romo added "there's not a trend in making poor decisions" despite being intercepted five times in the past two games, both defeats.

"I have to correct that, and I will," he said. "But you have to throw it in there. When the guy's open, you can't hold the ball because it's a farther down-the-field throw. Then you've got no chance. You've got to find the right mix. I know how important that is.''
