Giants vs. Phillies: Ross' Homers Help Lincecum Edge Halladay in Game 1

PHILADELPHIA -- The hyped pitching matchup between Roy Halladay and Tim Lincecum went to the Giants, who got two homers from Cody Ross in a 4-3 victory over the Phillies in Game 1 of the NLCS on Saturday night at Citizens Bank Park.

Halladay, coming off a no-hitter in his first postseason start against the Reds, retired the first seven Giants hitters before Ross homered. Ross hit his second homer of the game in his next trip, in the fifth inning, to snap a 1-1 tie.

The Giants padded the lead by scoring two runs on three consecutive two-out hits in the sixth. They needed the insurance because the Phillies got two back in the bottom of the inning on Jayson Werth's homer.

Lincecum lasted seven innings. He gave up six hits and three walks, and he struck out eight. Halladay also pitched seven, allowing eight hits and no walks. He struck out seven.
