The New York Rangers lost two key cogs to their lineup in Friday night's 4-3 overtime loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs as world-class scorer Marian Gaborik suffered a separated shoulder and captain Chris Drury re-broke a finger that sidelined him for all of the preseason and the first two games of this season. The Rangers' marquee scorer will miss 2-3 weeks, while their captain will be out six weeks.Gaborik's injury was caused in the second period, after a crunching hit into the boards by Maple Leafs forward Colby Armstrong, which was deemed a boarding penalty.
Gaborik spent nearly all of last season injury-free, playing in 76 games for the Rangers. That was noteworthy for the Rangers' leading goal scorer, who underwent groin surgery during the 2006-07 season, has been plagued with a balky groin throughout his NHL tenure and has played in 70 or more games only twice in the past six seasons.
